NEW COMMUNITY CENTER OPENS IN SPRINGFIELD SPRINGFIELD Oct 10 2024 The city opened a new community center today This center is at 123 Main Street It will help local families The building has many features People can use the gym and computer lab There are meeting rooms too Outside there is a playground for kids The project took two years to finish City money paid for most of it Private donations helped also Mayor Jane Smith spoke at the event She said This place belongs to all of us We built it for you She thanked everyone involved Local resident Tom Johnson shared his thoughts He said My kids need safe spaces This center gives them that The center opens every day It runs from 8 am to 8 pm Children enter free Adults pay five dollars Programs start next week They include after school tutoring Also fitness classes for seniors Ten full time workers will manage the place Volunteers will help too The design uses solar panels That saves energy costs Rainwater tanks water the garden The center will host events soon A job fair is planned for November City leaders hope people visit often They want the center to be busy The building replaces an old warehouse That building was empty for years Construction created many local jobs Now families have a new gathering spot Summer camps will operate there next year Parents already ask about signups The police chief supports the project He believes it prevents youth problems The center has free wifi everywhere Parking is available behind it
